MeeT THE PRO'S:

Shane Franklin

After a year on the senior amateur golf circuit in Ireland, I turned professional in March 2004. I played mostly on the PGA Europro Tour in the UK and Europe, with some appearances on the Challenge Tour and in US events.

Following my playing career, I decided to become a coach and earned my Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Coaching qualification, achieving the highest exam results in the country. I received The Titleist PGA Award Prize from Denis Pugh at a PGA ceremony in Birmingham. Nowadays, I occasionally play on the PGA Irish Region and hold the position of Head Professional at Portumna Golf Club.

My coaching philosophy is simple: I don’t teach a method; I teach the individual. I believe the golf swing, like the weather, can change day to day. I only intervene if a swing aspect consistently affects the ball flight. I tailor my instruction to each player, aiming for simplicity and focusing on performance rather than complex academic theories.
